A DOUBLE BLIND STUDY OF BROMAZEPAM

Abstract
A double blind study of Bromazepam and placebo was performed in 42 patients who had been suffe¡©red from anxiety neurosis, obsessive-compulsive neurosis and psychosomatic disorder.
Global symptom checklist and self reporting were used to measure the response to treatment. The results were as follow.
1) It was found that bromazepam was far more effective than placebo in improving the patient¢¥s emotional distress level and also was found that the target symptoms of bromazepam were anxiety, inner tension, phobia, difficulty in falling asleep, headache and some somatic manifestations of anxiety.
2) When clinical ratings were examined by di¡©agnostic group, there was no difference of impro¡©vement among the diagnostic groups.
3) We experienced paradoxical aggravation of excit:ment, drowsiness, ataxia and dry mouth, as a side siffect. The incidence of side-effects was relatively low and most of side effects were occurred within 49hrs.
The results suggest that Bromazepam is a potent anxielytic drug most likely to be effective to the psychic and somatic manifestation of anxiety and phobia.
